Colorado Storm News Release
Denver, CO. William Jewett, General Manager of the ABA Colorado Storm professional basketball team, today announced that Sheldon Jones has been hired as head coach of the team scheduled to begin play in November. According to Jewett, "We were late getting started; we needed someone with experience and energy to put things together quickly. Sheldon has these things and much much more. We feel very fortunate to have him with us."
Coach Jones played collegiately for both Western Nebraska and Southern University where he wound up as the school's all time assist leader and second in career steals. He then played professional for three years before going into coaching in 1996 at Western University under Coach Dave Campbell and most recently has assisted at Utah Valley State. He commented, "Basketball has been my life for the past 13 seasons both as a player and coach. The opportunity to coach at the pro level is a dream come true for me especially with the incredible group of coaches in the ABA like Earl Cureton, Tiny Archibald, Jellybean Bryant, Scott Wedman, and many others. My work is cut out for me. We are up to the task and will make our community proud. Already, the response from players has been amazing; big names too. It should be fun."
