Storm Looks to Thunder Past the Utah Warriors
May 28, 2004 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
Sioux Falls Storm News Release
The Sioux Falls Storm of the National Indoor Football League (NIFL) is set to battle the Utah Warriors this Saturday night, May 29th at the Sioux Falls Arena with kickoff at 7:05 pm. Sioux Falls suffered a loss to Utah earlier this season and is looking to avenge the loss through another victory at home. The Storm enters this game with a 7-2 record, and are coming off a strong victory over the previously undefeated Billings Outlaws.
The Utah Warriors had a tough loss last weekend to the Black Hills Red Dogs. The game proved to be more than a loss to the Warriors, as their starting quarterback, Doug Smith, went down with a shoulder injury. His status for this weekend's game is still unknown. The loss brought Utah to a record of 5-5, putting them at second place in the Pacific West Conference.
The Storm is currently first in their division, the Pacific North, and they look to stay there with a win over Utah. Last Saturday's game against Billings was a great display of Storm talent. The Storm defense halted Billings' offense with the help of Nate Fluit, Bill Gassen and Austin Flyger. All three came away with QB sacks on the evening, while defensive backs Trice Crump and Bobby Perkins each had 2 interceptions. On the offensive side of the ball, Matt Holmlund came up with 2 TD receptions from quarterback Jose Fuentes, while Casey Veenhoff and Justin Bivins each had TD's as well. "Smooth Operator" Corey Walker snagged five catches for 48 yards on the night.
The Storm will put on another show this Saturday night at 7:05pm. Sioux Falls will be honoring its "little" fans with "Kid's Night" sponsored by Viereck Commercial Real Estate. The first 1,500 kids through the door will receive a Storm Team Picture that they can have autographed after the game! Don't miss the "THE BIGGEST SHOW IN TOWN," as the Storm goes for its eighth straight win.
