Great Lakes Storm News Release

Birch Run, MI (January 17, 2005) – The Great Lakes Storm could not ask for a better way to go into the All-Star Break. They go into the break riding a five-game winning streak that propelled them into first place in the Eastern Conference. The final two victories came on the road at Sioux Falls as the Storm defeated one of the best teams in the CBA three times in a span of five days.

With the Storm sitting in first place at the All-Star Break, it may come as a surprise to the rest of the CBA, but not for Coach Bergman and his players. "Our goals remain the same now as they did at the beginning of the season," said Coach Bergman. "We had goals of having a winning season and getting this team into the playoffs for the first time in franchise history, and nothing has changed."

The Storm has had several highlights to the best start in franchise history. So far this season the Storm has had four players win Player of the Week, an improvement from only one player all of last season. The Storm had three players invited to the All-Star Game; Mark Jones, Kasib Powell, and Jackie Butler. Jones currently leads the league in scoring with 22.6 points per game. Powell has shown an all-around game as he has averaged 19.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game. Butler has become a double-double threat every night as he has averaged 16.1 points and 10.3 rebounds per contest.

The Storm has also been riddled by injuries so far this season, which makes it all the more impressive that they are in first place. Willie Simms, Ezra Williams, and several other have sat out multiple games due to injuries which has led to twelve different starting lineups. It is the perfect time for a break as only the Michigan Mayhem has played as many games (27) as the Storm heading into the All-Star Game.
