Chicago Storm News Release

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (March 15, 2009) - Tim O'Neill's goal with 4:09 to go was the deciding marker in an action-packed fourth quarter, and the New Jersey Ironmen came away with a 9-8 victory over the Chicago Storm at the Sears Centre on Sunday afternoon.

The Storm (7-10) saw their two-game winning streak snapped, and they fell three games behind the Milwaukee Wave in the XSL standings.

Chicago took an 8-7 advantage 1:09 into the fourth quarter when Chris Brisson converted his second goal of the game on a Freddie Moojen feed. Ironmen keeper Brett Phillips kept his team within a point with a pair of fantastic saves just six seconds apart, one on Fabinho and another against Will Kletzien.

That work paid off when Chile Farias played a ball across from the left wing to O'Neill streaking down the right wing. O'Neill, just resigned by the Ignition before last weekend, finished a one-timer past Bayard Elfvin to put his team on top.

Phillips authored one more great save, on Ian Bennett with :53 to go as the Storm worked with a sixth attacker, and the Ironmen (7-8) held on.

Elfvin, in his second game with the team filling in for the injured Jeff Richey, was strong again with 12 saves. Lazo Alavanja had a goal and as assist in support of Brisson's two goals.

The Storm conclude their March homestand at 3 p.m. next Sunday against the Detroit Ignition. Former Chicago Fire star Diego Gutierrez will greet fans and sign autographs on Hispanic Heritage Day. Gutierrez is on hand to support his work with Nothing But Nets, an effort to fight malaria in impoverished nations.
