HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (Feb. 15, 2009) - Missed chances in a frenetic second half cost the Chicago Storm on Sunday in a 15-13 home loss to the New Jersey Ironmen.

The Storm (3-7) have dropped six of their last seven games and fell behind the Ironmen (4-6) in the XSL standings. A rematch is slated for 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Newark.

Chicago appeared in the driver's seat as the first half drew to a close. With just :05 to go and the Storm leading 6-4, Ironmen captain Neto drew a blue card. XSL leading scorer Lucio Gonzaga was then red carded for protesting the call, and the Storm opened the third quarter with a 5-on-3 advantage.

That 1:55 power play yielded nothing, however, and a little more than 3 minutes later the Ironmen drew even on a restart goal.

Chicago finished 1 of 4 on the power play, and for Coach Steve Morris, shooting and finishing were the culprits.

"It comes down to shooting," he said. "We had chances, we just didn't get the ball on target."

New Jersey was on target with a pair of tremendous goals in the fourth quarter, which opened with the score tied 8-all. Evan McNeley blistered a volley on a diagonal cross from Rey Martinez to make it 10-8. After Chris Cerroni's power play 3-pointer put the Storm on top 11-10, Chile Farias retaliated with a restart screamer from far outside the yellow line to make it 13-11.

Each team tallied once more, but Chicago couldn't convert after putting Will Kletzien on as the sixth attacker with 2:21 remaining.

Cerroni had a 3-pointer, 2-pointer and a pair of blocked shots for the Storm. Andy Rosenband added a goal and an assist.

The Storm travel to New Jersey on Thursday and Detroit on Friday for games that kick off at 6:30 p.m. CST. Next home action for the Storm is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28 at 6 p.m. against Milwaukee. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster outlets or by calling the Storm office at 1-866-STORM81 (1-866-786-7681).
