Sioux Falls Storm News Release

The Sioux Falls Storm of United Indoor Football (UIF) has announced that Storm Defensive Coordinator, Brian Hermanson, has resigned for the remainder of the 2005 season because of being hired as the new Head Football Coach at Washington High School in Sioux Falls. 2005 marked the 3rd season with Hermanson as the Defensive Coordinator for the Storm as he helped lead a tenacious Storm defense in his tenure and helped the Storm to a Conference Championship and Indoor Bowl appearance in 2004. Currently the 2005 Storm defense is 2nd in the UIF in scoring defense (giving up only 33.2 point per game) and 4th in total defense. "We are extremely happy for Brian receiving his first Head Coaching position and especially in Sioux Falls where he wants to be. Washington High School will be in great hands under his leadership and we fully support his decision and thank him for all he's done for the Storm organization," says General Manager Colin Steen.

The Storm has also announced that former Storm / Cobras Head Coach, Mike Aldrich will take over for Hermanson as Defensive Coordinator for the remainder of the 2005 season. Aldrich was head coach for both the Sioux Falls Cobras of the former IFL and was the Storm's head coach for the 2001 and 2002 season's before taking a Defensive Graduate Assistant job at the University of Louisville. In his tenure as head coach, the Storm went 18-15 and made an appearance in the Conference Championship Game in 2001. In 2000 with the Cobras, his defense was ranked #1 in the league and his defense was ranked in the top three in both 2001 and 2002. Currently, Mike is the Assistant Defensive Coordinator and Secondary Coach at Augustana College. "It's unfortunate that we have lost Coach Hermanson, but if there was one person to fill his shoes for the remainder of the season, it would be Mike Aldrich. Mike installed our defense that we currently run today, so what better person to come in and teach our players what he's installed from the beginning than Mike," says General Manager Colin Steen.

The Storm is coming off a 55-15 dominating win over the Black Hills Red Dogs last Saturday night at the Sioux Falls Arena. The Storm has a bye this week before taking two long road trips to Lexington, Kentucky on Saturday, June 11 and then Tennessee Valley (Huntsville, Alabama) on Saturday, June 18. The next home game for the Storm will be Saturday, June 25 when arch-rival Sioux City enters the Storm Shelter.
