Evansville BlueCats News Release
Entering Saturday night's home game against the Peoria Rough Riders, the BlueCats were 5-0 in Roberts Stadium for the 2005 indoor football season. But that all changed as the BlueCats lost to Peoria 39-28 on their home turf. With only 28 points scored by the BlueCats, it was the fewest points scored by Evansville in a game dating back to the end of last season and fourth lowest point total at home in team history.
Down 10 in the second quarter, Evansville came back to tie the game with 8 seconds left as it looked like the teams would enter the locker rooms all tied at 28. However, after the kickoff, Peoria receiver JR Taylor scored on a touchdown pass from quarterback Walter Church as time ran out in the first half. That touchdown put Peoria on top for good and as they led 30-23 at the half.
In the second half, Evansville only scored on an Erik Rockhold field goal and a safety courtesy of Richard Johnson. Peoria scored a touchdown and field goal in the second half to arrive at the final score of 39-28.
The loss drops the BlueCats to 5-4 on the season and the team remains in second place in the UIF South Division, one half game behind Lexington.
Peoria snaps their 6 game losing streak and improves to 3-6 on the year.
After the game, BlueCats Head Coach Ollie Guidry said, "I think our week of practice was indicative of how we played, which was poorly. So we're going to go back to doing Oklahoma and goal line drills and going full pads. Overall we didn't play well as a team. Offensively we couldn't score when we had opportunities, we missed way too many kicks, and we had two blown coverages in critical situations that cost us 14 points."
Next weekend, the Evansville BlueCats will be on the road traveling to Huntsville, Alabama to take on the Tennessee Valley Raptors at the Von Braun Civic Center. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm this Saturday June 4th.
The Evansville BlueCats return home on Saturday, July 2nd, when they welcome the Tupelo FireAnts. For tickets, contact the Roberts Stadium box office at 812-476-1383 ext. 25 or Ticketmaster. For the complete Evansville Bluecats 2005 schedule, please visit the website at www.evansvillebluecats.com.
