SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Sioux Falls Storm are pleased to announce the signings of defensive backs Qumain Black, Eldrick Bright, DeShawn Hathorn, DeeJay Johnson, Branden Leston, Garrett Reece-Scott, DeAndre Scott and Ridge Turner for the 2019 season.
Black (6'0, 195) enters his first season with the Storm. He signed as a undrafted free agent with the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL) in 2015. Qumain played collegiately at East Central University where he tallied 85.5 tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, six interceptions, two touchdowns and 12 pass break-ups. He was a Don Hansen All-Super Region Three Third-Team selection and was an All-Great American Conference (GAC) First Team selection.
Bright (5'9, 185) returns to the Storm for his second season with the Storm after missing the 2018 season due to injury. Eldrick played collegiately at Western New Mexico University where he garnered 99 tackles (64 solo), 4.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble and seven pass break-ups.
Hathorn (6'0, 190) enters his rookie season in professional football with the Storm. Deshawn played collegiately at Western New Mexico University where he had 33 total tackles, two tackles for loss, five interceptions and nine pass breakups.
Johnson (6'3, 170) enters his rookie season in professional football with the Storm. DeeJay played collegiately at Southwestern University where he earned Honorable Mention All-SCAC in 2014 and was a First Team All-SCAC selection in 2015.
Leston (6'2, 205) joins the Storm for his rookie season as a member of the Indoor Football League. Branden played collegiately at Western Kentucky University where he accumulated 159 tackles, six tackles for loss, one sack, one interception and three pass break-ups.
Reece-Scott (5'10, 180) enters his rookie season in Sioux Falls. Garrett played collegiately at Colorado Mesa University where he tallied 30 tackles (21 solo), one forced fumble and seven pass break-ups.
Scott (5'11, 195) joins the Storm squad as a rookie. DeAndre played collegiately at University of Akron where he amassed 112 tackles, 28 pass break-ups, 10 interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Turner (5'11, 190) enters his first season with the Storm. He previously played for the Cedar Rapids Titans in 2017. Ridge played collegiately at University of West Alabama where 20 tackles, three tackles for loss, two interceptions, five pass break-ups, and three fumble recoveries during his senior season.
"Athletic group of DB's that bring length and speed," said Head Coach Kurtiss Riggs. "Excited to have this group and see them compete. Versatility is a key with many of these guys."
