Tampa Bay Storm News Release

TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Storm added defensive back and Jack linebacker Sam Smith to the roster and placed defensive back Riley Swanson on injured reserve, announced vice president of football operations Jeff Gooch.

"Sam brings a physical nature to the defensive back position," said Gooch. "He is someone that adds versatility to the position and fits the mold of what we are looking for in a player."

Smith (6-foot-0, 215 lbs., Delaware State) played in 16 games for the Iowa Barnstormers last season. He was third on team with 58.5 tackles, second with four interceptions and three forced fumbles. Smith also added six pass break ups and a tackle for a loss.

The former local standout prepped at Pinellas Park High School in Pinellas County. He finished his collegiate career at Delaware State as one of the universities all-time defensive leaders. He earned All-MEAC First-Team honors his junior and senior seasons and was named to the I-AA All-America team each of those seasons.

Swanson (6-0, 185, Wake Forest) appeared in all five games at defensive back for the Storm. He currently leads the team with two interceptions and is one of five players to recover a fumble.
