Augusta Colts News Release

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Marvin Stone caught seven passes for 195 yards and 4 touchdowns, and kicker Shon Rowser made three "UNO" kicks that proved to be the difference in the Augusta Spartans' 42-40 victory over the Daytona Beach Thunder in a World Indoor Football League game Thursday before 3,780 at Eauction Depot Field at James Brown Arena.

The Spartans (6-5) remained unbeaten in four home games while the Thunder (3-8) have yet to win on the road in five attempts. Augusta's two victories against Daytona Beach have been by a combined four points.

Stone's 195-yards was a single-game high for WIFL receivers this season, eclipsing the 182 set by Daytona Beach's Cory McKinney last week against the Osceola Ghostriders. Stone also recorded the longest TD pass in the league this season in the fourth quarter with a 49-yarder from Mike Rathe (15 of 27 for 258 yards and five touchdowns) that gave Augusta a 42-34 lead.

Daytona Beach closed to 42-40 on Bo Bartik's 13-yarder to Barry Wagner with 9:44 remaining, but failed to convert the two-point conversion and then missed two field goal attempts in the final two minutes.

Rowser gave the Spartans three extra points by putting kickoff attemps through the uprights. He now has made 10 for the season.

The Thunder held Augusta scoreless in the second quarter to turn a 15-6 deficit into a 20-15 halftime lead on Bartik's 18-yarder to Tavares Woodley on the half's final play.

Rowser made two UNOs and Rathe connected with Stone and Anthony and Willie Butler rushed for a score as Augusta led by as many as nine.

Stone finished with six catches for 58 yards and one touchdown. Butler rushed for 20 yards and one score. Richard Dykes registered two first-half interceptions.

McKinney, second behind Stone in the WIFL's receptions and scoring categories, finished with six catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns. Wagner, the arena football legend, caught four balls for 82 yards and two scores in addition to three key pass breakups.

Bartik threw for 231 yards and five touchdowns and rushed for another. He also made two point-after attempts. Nick Allison had two interceptions on defense.
