Stone Crabs Win Rain-Shortened Shutout 2-0

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Stone Crabs right-hander Blake Bivens earned his first career shutout Saturday, working five scoreless innings as Charlotte beat Fort Myers 2-0 in a rain-shortened game at Charlotte Sports Park.

Bivens (1-0) allowed just three hits over five scoreless, striking out four while walking only one.

Fort Myers (18-28) starter Tyler Wells (3-3) surrendered two runs on six hits over four innings in a losing effort. He struck out one and walked one.

The Stone Crabs (23-23) got their offense going early against Wells. Miles Mastrobuoni singled with one out in the bottom of the first before Nate Lowe stroked a single to left to bring him home and give Charlotte a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second, Peter Maris led off the inning with an infield single before Zac Law moved him to second with a base hit to left. With two outs, Lucius Fox lined a single to left to score Maris and make it 2-0.

Saturday's win is Charlotte's third shutout win of the season, and second in a row against the Miracle.

The second game of Saturday's doubleheader was postponed due to unplayable field conditions. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader at on Sunday at 12:35 p.m. Coverage starts at 12:20 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
