TODAY'S GAME: Game three of a four-game series against the Tampa Tarpons at Osceola County Stadium (1-1)...Third of four series between the two clubs in 2018, including two, and final set in Kissimmee...The Fire Frogs are 3-3 against the Tarpons this season after finishing 0-12 against the New York Yankees' affiliate in 2017.
TODAY'S STARTING PITCHER: 23-year-old Connor Johnstone makes his second start of 2018, and 10 appearance at the High-A level...The product of Wake Forest made his first start of the season against the Dunedin Blue Jay son May 22, holding the D-Jays off the scoreboard on just one hit, one walk, and tied a career-high with six strikeouts in just three innings...Saturday will be the right-hander's second career appearance agaisnt the Tarpons...The 6-foot-1 hurler worked two innings of relief against Tampa on May 5 at Osceola County Stadium, holding the New York Yankees affiliate scoreless on a walk and a punchout.
LATE LEAD SLIPS AWAY IN LOSS TO TAMPA: The Florida Fire Frogs jumped out to a 5-0 lead lead, but could not hang on as they fell 8-5 to the Tampa Tarpons of Friday night at Osceola County Stadium. The loss snaps a team-high, six-game winning streak.
Florida plated five runs inthe fourth inning to take the advantage for Ian Anderson, but the right-hander left with two runners on and two runs allowed with one out in the sixth. Thomas Burrows came in to try to shut the door, but Tampa pushed across two more runs in the frame against the reliever to cut the lead to one.
Devan Watts was called upon for the save opportunity in the eighth, but surrendered three runs in the frame on four hits and a walk. Mauricio Cabrera gave up a solo home run to Dom Thompson-Williams to start out the ninth inning for the game's final tally.
MAY THE SCHWARTZ BE WITH YOU: Garrison Schwartz collected two hits on Friday night to extend his hitting streak to nine games, setting a season-high for the Fire Frogs...The corner outfielder has had just one multi-hit performance during the streak, going 10-for-29 since May 15...The product of Grand Canyon University has lifted his average from .268 to .299 since the streak began.
HIGH FIVES FOR EVERYONE!: With a five-run fourth in game two of the series against Tampa, Florida has had at least one crooked number in each of its last five games...Florida's offense has tallied 32 runs on 44 hits over its last 36 innings...The Fire Frogs had scored just 23 runs over their previous seven games.
LUCKY NUMBER SEVEN: Ian Anderson picked up seven strikeouts for the fourth consecutive outing...The right-hander has tallied seven punchouts five times this season, and leads the Fire Frogs with 52 strikeouts (good for a tie of second place in the Florida State League)...The 20-year-old is seven Ks behind 2017's pace through nine starts, which included a career-high 11 on May 25.
