Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release

After an extra-inning win on Thursday, the Stone Crabs take on Dunedin at 6:35 p.m. again tonight. Jose Mujica makes the start for Charlotte against Maverik Buffo of the Blue Jays.

Coverage starts at 6:20 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.

McKAY WALKS OFF JAYS IN TENTH

Brendan McKay's walk-off sacrifice fly stunned the Dunedin Blue Jays 3-2 in 10 innings on Thursday. Charlotte reliever Trevor Charpie went two hitless innings in relief to earn the win. Now riding a four-game winning streak, the Stone Crabs look to continue to battle through a stretch of 11 straight games against winning teams.

"STRO"-LLING TO FIRST

Stone Crabs utility man Miles Mastrobuoni is putting together one of the most consistent, under-the-radar seasons of any Charlotte player. The Nevada product is currently second in the league in on-base percentage (.395), pacing the team in walks (43). He is four walks from placing top-10 in franchise history and is seventh in the circuit in hitting (.295). He has played seven positions and occupied eight spots in the batting order.

ABOVE THE FRAY

Stone Crabs outfielder Jake Fraley has done nothing but rake since coming off the DL on June 7. Since July 5, Fraley is batting .403/.438/.657 with 12 extra-base hits, 19 RBI, five stolen bases and five walks in 21 games. For the season, he was batting .432 with runners in scoring position.

MORE THAN A PINT OF IMPROVEMENT

Stone Crabs catcher Rene Pinto has shown significant improvement with the bat each month:

April May June July Aug

AVG .214 .219 .313 .321 .381

OPS .500 .642 .736 .804 .857

CLUTCH CRABS

The Stone Crabs continue to fare much better in close games lately than they did earlier in the season. The Stone Crabs entered June 9 with a 4-12 record in one-run games. Since then, they've gone 17-9 in games decided by two runs or less, walking off on their opponent five times.

RUN RIPPERS

The Stone Crabs own the best run differential by a large margin, indicating a potential uptick in the standings:

1 - Charlotte +89

2 - Dunedin +37

3 - Fort Myers + 33

DOUBLE DIPPING

The Stone Crabs have hit more doubles (235) than everyone else in the rest of the league by at least 38 (Dunedin - 197). Charlotte's 235 doubles puts them on a pace for 285, which would obliterate the franchise mark of 257 (2011). Tristan Gray is already well within the franchise's single-season leaders:
