Stockton nips 'Catters 5-4

Beaumont, TX (February 25, 2007) Mike Lalonde scored the game winning goal and added three assists as the Stockton Thunder defeated the Wildcatters (31-16-5-4) 5-4 in front of 1,703 at Ford Arena. The 'Catters trailed several times in the game before evening the score at four with a goal from Daniel Sparre. Lalonde got Stockton the lead back for good at 10:29 of the second period as he beat 'Catters goaltender Matt Yeats.

The Thunder took an early lead in the contest as Mathieu Melanson scored the fourth consecutive goal for Stockton in the series to put the Thunder up 1-0. The 'Catters tied it up at one as Alex Leavitt jammed in a rebound beating Stockton goalie Devan Dubnyk. Beau Geisler and Jason Beckett scored twice in a span of two minutes to put Stockton back ahead 3-1. Leon Hayward cut the lead to one with a sharp angle shot with just 56 seconds remaining in the period. Jim Dahl gave Stockton a two goal lead once again 5:10 into the second period. Texas inched closer to tying the score as Brandin Cote netted his 21st goal of the season. Then, Sparre made it 4-4 8:33 into the second period. Lalonde put Stockton back ahead for good with help from Nathan Martz and Geisler to win the game 5-4.

Martz added three assists for Stockton. The Wildcatters out shot Stockton 50 to 32 in the loss. The Thunder concluded the game 3 for 4 on the power play while the 'Catters finished 1 for 5. Texas went 3-2-1 on the six game home stand and now head out on the road for a season long seven game road trip which begins Wednesday night in Utah.
