
Stingrays Topple Everblades in Shootout

Estero, FL - The South Carolina Stingrays (3-2-0-0) defeated to the Florida Everblades (2-1-0-2) 5-4 in the shootout at Germain Arena Wednesday evening. Four Stingrays recorded multi-point games and goaltender Shawn Hunwick made a season-high 39 saves.
Everblades forward Corey Trivino started the scoring late in the first period knocking a pass from forward Alex Hutchings past Hunwick at 18:53. Forward Justin Shugg added the second assist.
The Stingrays tied the contest 58 seconds into the second period when forward Matthew Pistilli beat Everblades goalie John Muse (SOL, 23 saves 27 shots) under the glove from the top of the crease. Forwards Mike Ullrich and Tyler McNeely earned assists. Defenseman Tommy Kivisto reclaimed the lead for the Everblades on the power play at 8:59 from Hutchings and defenseman Charles Landry . At 13:36, McNeely made it 2-2 with help from Pistilli and Ullrich.
Forwards Tyler Randell and Shawn Weller put the Stingrays up 4-2 in the third period with tallies at 3:47 on the power play and 6:55. Ullrich, defenseman Ryan Lowery (2) and forward Andrew Cherniwchan netted assists. The Everblades fought back with a pair of man-advantage markers off the sticks of Mathieu Roy at 13:55 and Shugg at 15:28 to force overtime.
The Stingrays had a pair of 4-on-3 power plays in the extra session, but could not sneak one past Muse.
In the shootout, forwards Mike Hamilton and Cherniwchan lit the lamp forward Daniel Koger buried the game-winning goal in the bottom of the fifth round. The Stingrays finished the game 1-for-6 on the power play while the Everblades went 3-for-7.
The Stingrays continue a three-game road trip tomorrow, Thursday, October 25 at 7:00 p.m. against the Orlando Solar Bears at the Amway Center and return to the North Charleston Coliseum on Tuesday, October 30 to battle the Solar Bears at 7:05 p.m. on 2-for-1 Ticket night.
