Arizona Sting News Release

GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Arizona Sting Head Coach and General Manager Bob Hamley announced Wednesday the signing of veteran Jason Clark to a one-year contract.

Last season, his first in Arizona, Clark played in 15 games for the Sting, scoring 13 goals (including the 100th of his career on February 4) to go along with 9 assists for a total of 22 points. In the playoffs, Clark contributed 3G-2A-5P in 3 games. Playing in his hometown of Toronto, Ontario, against the Rock in the Champion's Cup Final, Clark had a pair of assists and five shots on goal.

"We're really happy to be bringing Jason back," Hamley said. "He brings a lot of leadership to our team and was a key role player for us last season. He's very team-oriented, and is willing to do whatever it takes to win. Having played in a lot of big games over the course of his career, he'll really help our younger guys develop and handle the pressure of the pros."

Last year's title game was the third Champion's Cup Final that Clark has played in; he has also played in the three highest attended indoor lacrosse games in history. In 2004, Clark was a member of the runner-up Buffalo Bandits team that lost 14-11 to the Roughnecks in front of 19,289 fans in Calgary on May 7. In 2001, he had 5 points (1G-4A) in the playoffs while playing for the Philadelphia Wings. The Wings beat the Rock 9-8 on April 27, 2001, winning the Champion's Cup on the road in front of 19, 409 fans at the Air Canada Centre. That game was the NLL's highest attended match until the Sting/Rock showdown drew 19,432 on May 14 of this year.

The Sting are the fifth team the 5'9", 180 lb. forward has played for during his six-year career. In 84 career NLL games, he has 108G-126A-234P as a member of the Philadelphia Wings, New York Saints, Buffalo Bandits, Ottawa Rebel, and Arizona Sting. The 31-year old Clark has also collected 342 career loose balls. His most productive season came in 2003 when he tallied 31 goals and had 26 assists for Ottawa.

Originally drafted by New York in the 5th round (30th overall) of the 1998 NLL Entry Draft, Arizona acquired Clark on October 25, 2004 in a trade with Minnesota that saw defenseman Tyler Francey head to the Swarm.

The Arizona Sting is a professional indoor lacrosse team playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). In only their second season in Arizona (after re-locating from Columbus, Ohio), the Sting finished the 2005 regular season with a 9-7 record prior to going on to win the West Division Championship before losing to the Toronto Rock in the Champion's Cup Final (NLL title game).
