HERSHEY – The HERSHEY Bears announced today that right wing Steve Brule, who is the Albany River Rats' all-time leading scorer, has signed a one-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche organization. In keeping with company policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Last season with the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, Brule recorded a team-leading 42 assists and 63 points. He registered a team-best 69 points while playing for the IHL's Manitoba Moose in 2000-2001.

Brule broke into the pro ranks with Albany near the end of the 1994-95 season and helped the River Rats capture their first Calder Cup Championship. In 14 post-season games, Brule produced 9-5-14 numbers. Brule, who was originally the New Jersey Devil's sixth choice, 143rd overall, in the 1993 Entry Draft, remained with the Rats through the 1999-2000 season. The 27-year old native of Montreal, who led the River Rats in scoring during the 1996-97 and 1999-2000 campaigns, amassed a franchise-best 155 goals, 214 assists and 369 points in 395 regular season games played during his Albany tenure. Brule also played one playoff game with the 2000 Stanley Cup Champion Devils.

"Steve Brule is not only skilled offensively, he is a consistent scorer and durable player," stated Bears' President and General Manager Doug Yingst. "We like the fact that he can be counted on to play in 75-80 games and regularly contribute points."
