Great Falls Explorers News Release
Albany, NY (June 9, 2006) - The Great Falls Explorers today announced the hiring of Steve Aggers, the former head coach of the College of Great Falls, as the first Explorers' Head Coach in franchise history. Aggers coached at the College of Great Falls from 1979-1985, where he won three conference championships and compiled a 104-42 record (.712 winning percentage).
"We are extremely pleased to have Coach Aggers lead the Great Falls Explorers. He is a proven head coach who has had a distinguished career at the college level, and we look forward to having him build a solid, winning team in Great Falls," said Kermit Young, Director of Basketball Operations for Apex Sportstainment, LLC, the holding company of four CBA franchises, including the Great Falls Explorers, Butte Daredevils, San Jose Skyrockets, and a fourth market yet to be announced.
"Coach Aggers is a winner both on and off the court. His positive experience in Great Falls in the past, plus his knowledge of the game of basketball, naturally led us to him as our Head Coach," stated Joe Clark, General Manager of all four Apex franchises.
Aggers last coached at Loyola Marymount University (2000-2005), where he helped turn the struggling program around from a #321 national RPI ranking to as high as #147 out of 328 schools. Prior to Loyola Marymount, Aggers coached at Eastern Washington University (1995-2000) where he led the school to the Big Sky Conference Championship in 1999-2000, and was named Big Sky Conference Coach-of-the-Year for two seasons. He also coached at Wayne State College (1985-1990) where he led the team to postseason playoffs four out of five seasons.
The CBA recently completed its 60th anniversary season on March 27 with the Yakama Sun Kings defeating the Gary Steelheads on a best of three series. That series featured the CBA's 2006 Player of the Year, Anthony Goldwire (Sun Kings) and the CBA's 2006 Coach of the Year, Jaren Jackson (Steelheads).
