Great Falls Explorers News Release
(BUTTE, MONTANA)--The Great Falls Explorers rode the hot hands of point guard Maurice Carter, who poured in 30 points on 8-for-16 shooting from the field and 12 of 13 from the line, including 2-of-3 from three-point land, and veteran power forward and former Boston Celtic, Junior Burrough, who had 26 points and 13 rebounds in posting his sixth double-double of the season, and the visitors came away with an impressive 115-101 (6-1) win over the Butte Daredevils at Civic Center in front of about 750 enthusiastic fans. Carter also tallied 10 assists for his fifth double-double of the year. Swingman Mike Peeples labored for 22 points and seven rebounds, while two-guard Pele Paelay had his own double-double with 19 points and 11 boards.
Martane Freeman and Benson Callier paced the host Daredevils with 22 and 21 points respectively. Freeman added nine boards and 3 assists to his line, and 2007-08 CBA All-Star Aaron Cook posted a double-double in his debut return to the team after taking some personal time off with 13 points and 10 assists.
Great Falls improved to 13-23 under first-time head coach Michael Tuckman, who was referred to by team leader Junior Burrough as the "world's most expensive towel boy." Tuckman was sitting in for head coach Rick Turner who was in Seattle on business. Shortly after the game, Tuckman announced his retirement from coaching, deciding to sit on his 1-0 lifetime record. Real coach Justin Wetzel debuted as the new Daredevils coach. Wetzel, a former Great Falls assistant coach was hired earlier in the week by Butte CEO Joe Clark. A native Montanan from Cut Bank, Wetzel got his pro head coaching start at just 27 years old, and by all accounts has a bright future. Butte fell to 15-24 on the season.
