Steenhuis Named Overall Player of the Week

Buffalo, N.Y. (March 9, 2004) — The Buffalo Bandits announced today that Mark Steenhuis has been named Overall Player of the Week for his performance against the Toronto Rock in Week 10. Steenhuis scored six points (3G, 3A), including the game-winner and collected 15 loose balls, as Buffalo reclaimed first place in the Eastern Division with the, 14-12, victory.

"I'm really happy for Mark that he received this award," stated Bandits General Manager Kurt Silcott. "We've asked him to fill a number of different roles for us this season. Most times, we ask Mark to do something that won't show up in the stat sheets or get him any accolades, but helps us be successful on the floor and win games. For example, we had him guard John Grant Jr a few weeks ago in Rochester.

"He never complains. He just goes out and does whatever job/challenge we put in front of him. When we needed some goals against Toronto, he was able to come through and lead us to the win. It's nice to see him get recognized for his efforts. This may be the first award of it's kind for Mark but he's been as valuable to us as any player on our roster this year."

The St. Catharines, Ontario native is currently ranked ninth in the league in goals (19), second on the team behind John Tavares (24). Steenhuis leads the Bandits in loose balls (82) and ranks third in points (34), fourth in penalty minutes (15) and fifth in assists (15).
