Youngstown SteelHounds News Release

The Youngstown SteelHounds had a golden opportunity Thursday night to move into a tie for second place with Bossier-Shreveport with a win against the Mudbugs; that did not happen as the Hounds drop four points behind with a 5-3 loss at the CenturyTel Center.

The SteelHounds could not get started on the right foot as Joe Ori made them pay twice within the first 1:25 to quickly put the crayfish up 2-0. Y-Town would answer back on a power play goal from Dallas Anderson in the ninth minute to make it 2-1 after one period. The goal for Anderson was his first as a SteelHound.

The second period showed a see-saw battle as Jeff Christian scored shorthanded from Chris Richards at 4:26 to tie the game at two. Christian also recorded an assist on the night and has now tied the franchise record for most consecutive games with a point at 19. The tie would not last long as Jason Basile would put in the first of three power play goals for the Mudbugs to make it 3-2 late in the period. The Hounds did answer back before the period ended with Tab Lardner getting his 10th of the season and third in two games to tie the game at three after two.

That would be as close as the SteelHounds would get as Chris Abbott would score two power play goals with one being an empty netter to put the game out of reach. The Mudbugs were 3-16 on the power play and that proved to be Y-Town's Achilles heel. The loss puts Youngstown at 15-10-7 and 37 points as they have now lost five of their last six. They trail the Mudbugs by four points for second place in the Northeast division. Y-Town will have a chance to redeem itself Friday night at Corpus Christi when they play the Rayz at 8:05pm.
