Tulsa Oilers News Release

The Tulsa Oilers have traded left winger David Masse and defenseman Matt Medley to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees in exchange for left winger Bill Newson and defensemen Kurtis Dulle (pronounced DEW-lee) and Jamie Lovell.

"We think this trade is definitely going to help our hockey team," Oilers coach Butch Kaebel said. "Dulle is an all-star this season, and Newson is a veteran player who's a two time all-star. He's been a team MVP, a leading goal scorer, and above all that, he has a work ethic second to none.

"Jamie Lovell is a steady hard working defenseman who prides himself in being in great shape, and will give us quality depth on the blueline," Kaebel said. The Oilers placed defenseman Darryl Smoleroff on the 14-day injured reserve list. He joins center Brent McMann on injured reserve.

In 33 games with Rio Grande Valley, the 5-foot-8, 175 pound, Newson had 13 goals and 16 goals for 29 points and was the Killer Bees second leading scorer. He was a CHL all-star in 2003-04 and an all-star with Amarillo in the Western Professional Hockey League in 2000-01.

Dulle, 5-foot-11, 196 pounds has played in 27 games this season, with six goals and nine assists for 15 points and 37 penalty minutes. He was selected to the Southern Conference all-star team. Medley was selected to represent the Oilers in the all-star game. Both players will play for the conference for which they were selected, Dulle for the South, and Medley for the North in the Dodge CHL all-star game January 17th in Bossier-Shreveport.

Lovell has also played in all 33 games for Rio Grande Valley this season. The 6-foot, 190 pounder has two goals and eight assists for 10 points and 27 penalty minutes.

Medley and Masse both had played in all 31 Oiler games this season. Masse had 20 goals and 19 assists for 39 points, while Medley had six goals and 19 assists for 25 points.

Newson, Lovell, and Dulle are expected to be in the Oilers line-up Friday night when they host the Oklahoma City Blazers at 7:35. Dodge is giving away hats to the first 1,500 fans and it's Jimmy Buffet night with prizes awarded to fans who wear the best beach attire. Tickets are available at the Carson Attraction box office located in the Tulsa Convention Center, all Drug Mart locations and by calling (918) 584-2000.
