Steelheads Sign Shelly Clark

GARY, Indiana (December 6, 2005) - The Gary Steelheads moved to strengthen their front court by signing 6-9 power forward/center Shelly Clark to a contract, pending CBA approval. Clark is a Steelheads' fan favorite, having been named to the CBA All Star Game the past two years. He is the team leader in career rebounding with 824 and has lead the team in rebounding the past two seasons.

A former standout at the University of Illinois, Clark has an extensive pro basketball resumé. During 2005, Clark played with Macizos de Guayana in Venezuela, where he was named to both the All-Venezuelan and All-Imports team. Over the summer, he played in the Minnesota Summer League with the Indiana Pacers' team.

During 2004-05, Clark averaged 15.9 ppg., while grabbing 8.7 rpg. He shot .480 from the field and .826 from the line, while handing out 2.8 assists. Clark proved once again to be a solid defender with an excellent shooting touch.

Clark's basketball profession has taken him on several overseas tours of duty. He has played for teams in Turkey, Isreal, Puerto Rico, Cypress and Argentina. He has also played for Ft. Wayne and Shreveport in the CBA, Dodge City in the USBL and Huntsville in the NBDL.

To make room for Clark, the Steelheads released Corey Minniefield. Clark will wear uniform #50.
