Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads announced today they have re-signed Darrell Hay and Dan Vandermeer to one-year contracts. The pair of defensemen each played in all 18 postseason games last season, and were an integral part of the Steelheads' championship run.

In 61 regular season games last year, the 6-foot, 200-pound Hay scored 11 goals and 26 assists and recorded 32 penalty minutes. He had 13 points in postseason play, including 2 goals and 11 assists. Hay, a Vancouver Canucks 1999 NHL Entry Draft Pick (round 9, 271 overall), spent time in several leagues including the WHL, IHL, AHL and ECHL before signing with the Steelheads in 2003-04. He was called up to play in 10 games with the Utah Grizzlies last season, Idaho's AHL affiliate. In 2002-03, he helped lead Columbia to the ECHL Kelly Cup Finals.

Vandermeer was acquired near the end of the 2003-04 season (March 16th) by the Steelheads in a swap with the Long Beach Ice Dogs for defenseman Michael Vyhlidal. After joining the Idaho squad, the 5-foot-11, 175-pound Vandermeer tallied 2 goals, 2 assists and 2 penalty minutes in 10 regular season games; and 4 goals, 7 assists and 4 penalty minutes in 18 postseason games. Vandermeer spent most of his career (288 games over five seasons) with the ECHL's Richmond Renegades, tallying 103 points (26 goals, 77 assists) and 730 penalty minutes. Of interest, Vandermeer has several brothers currently playing professional hockey, including the ECHL (Peoria), AHL (Philadelphia) and NHL (Philadelphia), and the two youngest in the WHL (Medicine Hat and Red Deer).

The Steelheads open their second season in the ECHL at home in defense of the Kelly Cup on October 22nd against the Alaska Aces. Season tickets, Flex-Plans and Mini-Plans, starting at $150, are currently available by calling (208) 383-0080.
