Steelhawks Powell Named Defensive Rookie of the Year

Allentown, PA: In a release made by the league office of the Professional Indoor Football League, Lehigh Valley's Joe Powell was announced the 2015 Defensive Rookie of the Year.

DB Joe Powell (6'2 Globe Tech) was the anchor of the vaunted Steelhawks defense that led the PIFL in takeaways with an astounding plus 28 turnover margin. Throughout the season, Powell was a ball hawking machine racking up 11 interceptions including a game high three interceptions against the Alabama Hammers. The two time defensive player of the week led the PIFL in interceptions. Powell also managed to finish 2nd in the league in tackles with 52.5. His performance throughout the season led to his selection to the All-PIFL 1st team. The first year back also showed off his offensive skill set in the final few weeks of the season including the playoff matchup against the 2015 PIFL Champions Columbus Lions. In that game, Joe hauled in 7 receptions for 98 yards and a touchdown.

The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks finished the 2015 season with a record of 6-6 including a trip to the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season.

Quarterback Casey Kacz of the Lions was also named the Offensive Rookie of the Year for the 2015 campaign.
