Lehigh Valley Steelhawks News Release
Bethlehem, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (4-0) will play the PIFL defending champion Alabama Hammers (0-4) on a special Mother's Day afternoon game this Sunday, May 11th (4:05 pm). The game will be "Pinked Out" for breast cancer; using pink game balls and there will be free pink rally towels given to the first 800 fans, presented by St. Luke's University Health Network. In addition, Ruby's Florist will be providing the first 500 women with a free flower for Mothers Day.
Lehigh Valley enters this weekend on a four game winning streak, matching the longest in franchise history. After their narrow victory last weekend over the Harrisburg Stampede, the PIFL honored two Steelhawks for their performance. QB Adam Bednarik was named Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season after he led the team to the win, throwing for 168 yards and a touchdown. He was also dangerous on the ground, rushing for 49 yards and two scores. K Michael Barnard was named Vidswap.com Special Teams Player of the Week for the second week in a row. In two weeks he has hit eight Uno's on his way to scoring 26 total points.
The Steelhawks offense gets a boost this weekend with the return of WR Troy Pascley. Pascley was recently re-activated on the Steelhawks roster. In just three games played in 2013, he had 11 catches for 228 yards and 5 touchdowns.
It has been the Steelhawks defense that has been keeping the team in the games. They are currently the number one scoring defense in the league, allowing only 35 points per game. Three Lehigh Valley DB's are in the top ten in tackles - Dwayne Hollis (4 ints) and Stefaun Whitehead (2 ints) are tied for second with 25.5 tackles each, and Stanley Dunbar Jr. is sixth with 15.5 tackles.
The defense will be tasked with containing Alabama's WR Mico McSwain, the league's reigning MVP and current leading receiver. He is averaging 7 catches and 93 yards per game while registering ten touchdowns in three games. The Hammer's defense is led by DB Vince Hill (13 tackles, 2 ints, 5 pbus) and DL Darian Barnes (9.5 tackles, 3 sacks, 4 tfl).
Kickoff for this Sunday's game is slated for 4:05 pm. It will be "Pinked Out for Breast Cancer," presented by St. Luke's University Health Network. The first 800 fans through the door will receive a pink rally towel. Mothers will receive a free flower courtesy of Ruby's Floral Factory (limited to the first 500). There will also a Tricky Tray to benefit Talon's Man of the Year Campaign to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
