Lehigh Valley Steelhawks News Release
Allentown, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (3-0) welcome the Winston Wildcats (0-3) to town, just a week after the two faced off in North Carolina. This time the game will be on Embassy Bank Field inside the PPL Center for a Friday night tilt, and 7:30pm kickoff.
Lehigh Valley took the victory in the last matchup, 43-18. Trying to defeat a team two weeks in a row is always a difficult challenge, but after missing some opportunities in the last game, the Steelhawks are looking to improve on their performance to get another win.
Last week's game featured the return of WR Brandon Renford who missed a game due to injury. In his return, Renford led all receivers with six catches for 55 yards and two touchdowns. Both Steelhawks Quarterbacks saw time last week as Winston only had a brief lead during the first quarter. The two signal callers combined for a 58% completion rating - Jake Jablonski went 10 of 18 for 97 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score, Clay Belton came in and went 5 of 8 for 53 yards and two touchdowns.
Winston's defense did record an interception from DB Lamarcus Bond, the Steelhawks first thrown INT of the season. Bond and LB Chase Blackburn are both players Jablonski and the rest of the 'Hawks offense will need to be aware of in the rematch.
Lehigh Valley's defense is up against a rookie quarterback, Darius Coleman, who threw for 86 yards and a touchdown, on only 5 of 12 passing. Coleman will be looking for their deep threat in WR CJ Tarver (3 catches, 49 yds) who was on the receiving end of a 33 yard touchdown toss last game. The Steelhawks defense has been up to the challenge so far this season however, and the return of veteran DL/LB Gerard Bryant has made the front five even more dangerous and the ball-Hawking defensive backs and line backers have recorded eight interceptions this year already - John Williams III-3, EJ Frain-1, James Pitts- 1, Justin Shirk-1, Lenroy Neysmith-1, Tim Hume-1.
After seeing what each other's offense has, defense will be key in this week's rematch. The Lehigh Valley defense is allowing only 25 points per game, and they will need to be on their game again. Getting consistent pressure in the pocket and winning the turnover battle will also be key as the young offense is up against a defense that is already familiar with them.
The game this weekend is being brought to the fans by Service Electric Cable TV and Communications, and the first 1500 fans will receive a FREE black Steelhawks hat. Tickets are as low as $10 and can be purchased in advance or on game day at the PPL Center box office.
