Steelhawks Look to Continue Early Success

March 29, 2016 - American Indoor Football (AIF)
Lehigh Valley Steelhawks News Release

Allentown, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (2-0) will be back on the bus this week, and returning to North Carolina as well, this time to take on the Winston Wildcats (0-2). Kickoff will be at 7:00pm Saturday night evening. Fans in the Valley will be able to catch the game via a Wildcats live broadcast (link to be posted on team facebook page on game day).

The Steelhawks are coming off a decisive victory last week over the Triangle Torch, defeating them by 36 points. Winston's defense will have their hands full trying to contain the 'Hawks offense. Last game QB Jake Jablonski threw for seven touchdowns and ran for another in the decisive victory. Three different receivers caught a touchdown pass, with WR Darius Prince having a break-out performance with four touchdown grabs and more than 100 yards receiving total.

The Steelhawks defense has been brilliant, not allowing more than 30 points in a game so far this season and creating seven turnovers (2 fumbles, 5 ints) last week alone. LB Lenroy Neysmith was responsible for one of those turnovers as he tallied a pick six in addition to five and a half tackles and a pass break up.

The Wildcat's offense has struggled early on this season, having scored only 42 points so far this season. They were handicapped in their loss to the Yellow Jackets last week when their starting quarterback was sidelined with an injury early in the game; going on to score just nine total points. The most dynamic receiver the 'Hawks defense will have to be on the lookout for is Sammy Henderson. Defensively, the 'Cats have some weapons in LB Chase Blackburn, who relentlessly pursues quarterbacks, and DBs Mike James and Lamarcus Bond, both of whom have great instincts in the secondary.

It will be a game against two very different teams during this young season - Winston trying to get out of a scoring slump, and Lehigh Valley looking to continue the roll they've been on both defensively and offensively. Even though the Steehawks put 66 points up on the board, there were still some missed opportunities that could have been capitalized. If their defense continues to perform as they have, Lehigh Valley should be in a great position for the offense to continue to build and improve on last week's performance.
