AIF Lehigh Valley Steelhawks

Steelhawks Look for Redemption against Capitals

May 18, 2016 - American Indoor Football (AIF)
Lehigh Valley Steelhawks News Release

Allentown, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (6-1) are seeking a home playoff game after clinching a fifth straight playoff appearance. Standing in their way are the Central Penn Capitals (3-4), the team that handed the Steelhawks their only loss so far and who need the win to try and make the playoffs themselves. This is the third meeting between the teams; the teams splitting their first matchups. Kickoff is at 7:00pm this Saturday, May 21st on Embassy Bank Field inside the PPL Center.

Lehigh Valley will be looking for redemption when the Capitals return to the Valley. After not playing the game they know they were capable of the last time the teams met; the Steelhawks bounced back to playing a complete game against the Triangle Torch last week taking a decisive 49 point victory. QB Jake Jablonski rebounded from a minor injury and led the offense to 270 total yards on 79% completion rate and throwing six touchdowns while running for two more. WR Warren Oliver Jr. had a break out game, catching six passes for 64 yards and two touchdowns.

Jablonski and company will need to be aware of the Capitals' defense. DB Mark Granville snatched two interceptions in their last matchup and they have numerous other players that provide veteran leadership. On the other side of the ball, QB Ray Wagner had a great game in the last meeting. He completed 80% of his passes for 208 yards and four touchdowns. FB Eugene Goodman added two rushing scores.

The Steelhawks defensive front struggled to get pressure in the pocket two weeks ago against Central Penn, but was much improved in their last game - recording four sacks. That pressure needs to continue this week. The ball-Hawking defensive backs have tallied 22 interceptions on the season and need to continue to contain the deep ball.

This is the Steelhawks last regular season game before the playoffs. If the Steelhawks win, they will host their first EVER playoff game in the Lehigh Valley on Saturday, June 4th at 7pm. (Tickets will go on sale next week should the Steelhawks be victorious)

Four teams from both the North and South divisions will make the 2016 AIF playoffs. Playoffs will begin June 4th. The second round/division championships will be the weekend of June 11th. The championship game will be the following weekend.

This weekend's game is deemed "Salute to Heroes Night" and is presented by Embassy Bank, and the first 1,000 fans will receive a FREE cutting board. Tickets are as low as $10 and can be purchased in advance or on game day at the PPL Center box office. This is also the last game ticket vouchers will be honored as they are not valid for playoff games.

Potential Home Playoff tickets will go on sale Tuesday, May 24th if the Steelhawks are victorious this Saturday. Steelhawks season ticket holders will have first right of refusal for their seats, with general ticket sales starting as low as $10.
