Steelhawks Head to the Capital to Take on Defending Champs

March 8, 2016 - American Indoor Football (AIF)
Lehigh Valley Steelhawks News Release

Allentown, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks travel west to Harrisburg this weekend to take on the Central Penn Capitals (formerly of York). Saturday night's kickoff is set for 7:00pm and will be the first time the defending AIF Champions take the field in 2016 in their new city. Lehigh Valley hopes to come into the game on a roll after defeating the Philadelphia Yellow Jackets in their first preseason game of the season.

Rookie WR Darius Prince proved to be a dangerous offensive weapon for the Hawks' last week catching two touchdown passes from QB Jake Jablonski. Jablonski and Clay Belton continue to push each other in the starting quarterback race. Belton threw for two touchdowns and ran for another last week. Lehigh Valley's offensive line proved stalwart, not allowing a single sack.

Defensively, DB John Williams and LB/DL Chris Alvarez both recorded interceptions late in the game to shut down Philadelphia's attack. The entire front five was a force last week; in this game they will be up against an athletic quarterback in Capitals' Juice Williams. Williams is an arena veteran who the Hawks faced four years ago when he played for the Chicago Slaughter of the IFL.

Lehigh Valley's offense will have to beware of veterans in the Capitals' defensive backfield as well. DB Jermain Thaxton has been around the game for a number of years, he played against the Hawks' two seasons ago when he was a member of the Harrisburg Stampede of the PIFL.
