Lehigh Valley Steelhawks News Release
Bethlehem, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (6-4) put on a show for all their fans in the last regular season home game when they knocked off the Knoxville Nighthawks (2-8), 67-42, for the third time this season! In the victory, the Steelhawks once again met the Domino's 50 Point Challenge. All fans can receive 50% all menu priced pizzas at participating Lehigh Valley locations by using the code, SH50.
The Steelhawks started their offense early, striking first with a 12 yard QB Adam Bednarik touchdown pass to WR Tom Gilson. This would be the first of three times that duo would strike on the night, Gilson recorded three touchdown catches and 70 receiving yards. Bednarik would go for 333 yards through the air (on 26-34 passing), and a total of 8 touchdowns. His most dangerous receiver on the night however was Torieal Gibson who hauled in eleven catches for 144 yards, and three of those catches were for touchdowns. Gibson also rushed for a touchdown off a five yard carry. His stellar performance earned him the Bucca di Beppo and Countess Communications Player of the Game award.
Lehigh Valley led the entire game, never truly letting Knoxville gain any momentum. The defense kept the pressure on the Nighthawks quarterbacks the entire game. DL Bryan Wick and Larry Ford each recorded a sack as well as a tackle for a loss. DB Chris Johnson had a standout game as well, making two key interceptions.
The Steelhawks will finish the season on the road with two consecutive trips to Georgia, first to Columbus and then to Albany for a rematch with the Panthers. They are still vying for a home playoff game as well; we will keep all the fans posted to the possibility.
Fans are reminded that 2014 season ticket deposits are now being accepted. You can reserve your seats by calling the Steelhawks front office at 610-282-3100.
