Lehigh Valley Steelhawks News Release

Allentown, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (6-1) took care of business and were too hot to handle for the Triangle Torch (3-4). The Steelhawks dominated on both sides of the ball to claim the victory. Final score: Lehigh Valley 68, Triangle 19. Lehigh Valley is now in the playoffs for the 5th consecutive year.

The first quarter looked to be a game. Triangle put the first points on the board off the initial kickoff, a deuce hit by K TC Stevens (2-2 pat, 1-2 fg, 7 points). Lehigh Valley answered with a QB Jake Jablonski (12 yds rushing, 2 tds) keeper into the endzone. The Steelhawks would lose the ball on a fumble; allowing a go-ahead touchdown reception by WR Gerron Bryant (2 catches for 23 yds, 1 td). The 'Hawks would immediately respond with a Jablonski (19 of 24, 247 yds pasing, 6 tds) to WR Brandon Renford (5 catches for 58 yds, 1 td) 30 yard grab for a score. At the end of the first quarter, Lehigh Valley had taken a 14-9 lead, and never looked back.

The Steelhawks held the Torch to just a 36 yd field goal early in the second quarter. Meanwhile, Jablonski exploded for a 30 yard rushing touchdown, the team's longest rush of the season; and WR Jerrell Young (4 catches for 49 yds, 1 td) and WR Darius Prince (7 catches for 107 yds, 2 tds) each tallied a touchdown catch. By halftime, the 'Hawks had built a 25 point lead.

The second half was ruled by the Steelhawks defense. They held Triangle to just one touchdown in the half; coming in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter. On the other side of the ball, the offense would put up 31 more points. QB Aaron Channing (4 of 5, 34 yds, 1 td) entered the game and recorded his first touchdown throw on a tight end release to OL Shawn Lockett. WR Warren Oliver (6 catches for 64 yds) had a great half, snagging two touchdowns.

Defensively, the Steelhawks got back to getting pressure in the pocket - recording four sacks - DL Tim Hume and DL Larry Ford each getting two. The defensive backs were all over the place; picking off three passes (John Williams III - 1, Ken Walton - 2), and knocking down six passes (James Pitts - 1, Chris Alvarez - 1, Williams - 2, Walton - 2).

When all was said and done; the scoreboard read: Steelhawks 68, Torch 19.
