Steelhawks Announce 2016 AIF Game Schedule

Bethlehem, PA: In a release made today the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks, heading into their sixth season of play, announced their 2016 American Indoor Football League schedule. The Steelhawks Home Opener inside the PPL Center on Embassy Bank Field will be on Saturday, May 5th at 7:00pm versus the Philadelphia Yellow Jackets in the AIF's Kickoff Classic!

This season, the American Indoor Football League (AIF) will consist of 20 teams divided into two divisions, North and South. The Steelhawks will be a part of the North Division along with - Central Penn Capitals (PA), Chicago Blitz (IL), Marion Blue Racers (OH), Philadelphia Yellow Jackets (PA), River City Raiders (MO), Saginaw Sting (MI), Triangle Torch (NC), West Michigan Ironmen (MI), and Winston Wildcats (NC). Lehigh Valley's season will consist of nine games, six home and three away. The regular season kicks off in early March and will wrap up the end of May.

The Steelhawks will play five Saturday night home games and one Friday night game. With three Pennsylvania teams (Steelhawks, Capitals, Yellow Jackets), Lehigh Valley's fans can look forward to the beginning of some local rivalries. The Steelhawks will see the Central Penn Capitals three times, hosting them twice and traveling to Harrisburg once. The Yellow Jackets will also be in the Valley twice.

The North Carolina teams (Torch and Wildcats) are on the schedule twice each as well; each team will play one home and one away game versus the Hawks'.

The Steelhawks will have a true test for their first away game. The Central Penn Capitals (previously the York Capitals) are the defending league champions. The teams will also see each other in a regular season wrap up.

To make the playoffs, the Steelhawks will need to finish in the top three within their division. Six teams will make the playoffs, three from each division; the top team from each division will have a bye to the semi-finals. Playoffs are slated to begin on May 28th and will conclude with the AIF Championship Game on June 11th.
