Chicago Steel News Release
GENEVA, ILLINOIS - The Chicago Steel announced Monday that they have acquired defenseman Croix Evingson from the Kenai River Brown Bears (NAHL), while also trading defenseman Charlie Raith to the Sioux Falls Stampede in exchange for forward prospect Ashton Altmann. Evingson will join the Steel's active roster, while Altmann is added to the team's affiliate list.
Evingson, a 6-foot-5, 210-pound defenseman, was recently listed on NHL Central Scouting's Players to Watch list for the 2016 NHL Draft. In 38 games this season with Kenai River, the Anchorage, Alaska native tallied one goal and three assists. Evingson could make his USHL debut Friday vs. Sioux City.
Altmann, 17, plays for Duluth East High in Duluth, Minn. The 6-foot-1, 161-pound forward has registered 14 goals and 19 assists in 20 high school games this season. Altmann has scored at over a point-per-game pace in high school, recording 38 goals and 57 assists in 90 total games over the course of three seasons.
Raith, 18, joins the Stampede after competing for his hometown Steel during the last two seasons. The 5-foot-10, 150-pound defenseman registered nine assists and 27 penalty minutes in 46 career games with Chicago. Raith also scored two goals and added one assist in five games at the 2015 Junior Club World Cup in Yekaterinburg, Russia, helping the Steel to a bronze-medal finish.
