Chicago Steel News Release
GENEVA, ILLINOIS - The Chicago Steel return to the home ice of Fox Valley Ice Arena for a weekend jam-packed with promotions for games on Friday, November 5 against the Green Bay Gamblers and Saturday, November 6 against the Dubuque Fighting Saints. Both games against Eastern Conference rivals are scheduled for 7:05 pm CT puck drops.
Hockey is for Everyone Night takes center stage on Friday, a celebration of inclusion which will include an on-ice intermission spotlight for Chicago Blackhawks Special Hockey, a team comprised of players that have autism, Down syndrome or other intellectual disabilities. CBSH will take the ice before the game and during the first intermission.
During the second intermission, the Steel will host a girls' skills competition.
Saturday is Top Gun Night and the first 500 fans will receive Steel Aviators as the Steel take on the Dubuque Fighting Saints. Fans will enter the Danger Zone with a Top Gun Quote-Off contest, Glider Airplane Contest, Tom Cruise Trivia, and even a special video board appearance from Maverick himself. After the on-ice action, fans are invited to participate in a post-game skate.
The Steel went 1-2-0-0 over a three-game road stretch last weekend, splitting a pair of games against Team USA (U18) with a 3-1 win on Oct. 29 and a 5-1 loss on Oct. 30 before dropping a 5-1 decision against the Youngstown Phantoms on Oct. 31 at Covelli Centre.
Joe Miller, a Toronto Maple Leafs prospect, tallied a pair of goals in back-to-back games against Team USA, giving him a career-best three-game goals streak.
Chicago faces off against Green Bay on Nov. 5 in the second of 10 scheduled matchups between the clubs during the 2021-2022 regular season. The Steel fell 2-1 in overtime against the Gamblers on Oct. 22 at Resch Center in Wisconsin.
Gamblers forward and Vegas Golden Knights prospect Jackson Hallum netted both Green Bay markers while Jack Harvey tallied the lone goal for Chicago. Aaron Randazzo made 31 saves for the Gamblers and Gibson Homer stopped 30 Green Bay shots in the goaltending duel.
The Gamblers roster boasts five skaters named on the NHL Central Scouting preliminary watch list, led by 'B'-rated prospects Kent Anderson, Ryan Greene and Cameron Lund.
The Dubuque Fighting Saints, owners of the longest active playoff streak in the USHL at 10 consecutive seasons, bring the league's best points percentage (.800) into Saturday night's bout with a 6-0-2-2 record (16 pts.).
Chicago took down Dubuque 3-2 in a shootout in an early candidate for 'Game of the Year' on October 23 at Fox Valley Ice Arena, the clubs' first meeting of the season. The Fighting Saints roster includes two Illinois-born skaters, forwards Michael Burchill and Mikey DeAngelo. Burchill, originally from Mundelein, has registered a goal and an assist through eight games in his first season in the USHL. DeAngelo, an Itasca native, has split time with Dubuque and Team USA this year, skating in eight contests for the Fighting Saints and two games for Team USA.
Including the weekend homestand, Chicago plays five out of its next six games on home ice at Fox Valley Ice Arena. After the Steel travel to Iowa for a road game against the Dubuque Fighting Saints on Fri., November 12, the team returns home for Superheroes and Villains on Saturday, November 13. The 7:05 pm CT game is a Family Pack Game, a special ticket offer which includes four tickets, four hot dogs, four chips, four sodas/waters and four chuck-a-pucks for just $50.
