Steel gain split in Nebraska

Bensenville, IL— The Chicago Steel traveled to Kearney, Nebraska this past weekend to take on the defending West Division Champions, the Tri-City Storm. The Steel gained the split, losing 4-2 Friday and winning 3-1 Saturday evening.

Scoring for the Steel on Friday were TJ Fox (Oswego, NY) and Alan Thompson (Gilford, NH) with an assist on Thompson's goal to Eric Slais (Fenton, MO). Shane Connelly stopped 23 of the 27 shots he faced to suffer the loss.

On Saturday the Steel rebounded to win 3-1. Lighting the lamp for the Steel were Kevin Swallow (Stanwood, MI) with assists going to Fox and Thompson. Slais followed with a goal of his own assisted by Chris Walsh (Northville, MI). Steel forward David Marshall (Buffalo, MN) ended the scoring with an assist credited to Matt Clackson (Pittsburgh, PA). Steel rookie goalie Billy Sauer stopped 28 of the 29 shots fired at him to gain his second win of the season.

The STEEL travel to Indianapolis Thursday night to face the Ice before returning home for a pair of games this weekend. The STEEL will look to seek a little revenge on the Ice who defeated the Steel at home in September 3-2 for their franchise's first ever win. The STEEL return home on October 15th to battle the Lincoln Stars at 7:35 and the following night take on the Des Moines Buccaneers at 7:05pm at the Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville.

INJURY UPDATE: Mike Van Wagner continues to go through therapy on his injured knee. No return date is set. David Sloane was diagnosed with mononucleosis this past week and returned home to Pennsylvania for some much needed rest. Danny Charleston had emergency surgery on the road this past weekend. His appendix burst and will be out until doctor's deem him fit to play.
