BENSENVILLE, IL—The Chicago Steel of the United States Hockey League would like to announce the verbal commitment of forward Eric Slais to Brown University. Slais will begin his career as a Brown Bear in the fall of 2005.

Slais becomes the sixth Steel player to make his collegiate commitment this season, forty-fifth in franchise history. The Fenton, Missouri native will join former Steel teammates Sean Hurley and Adam D'Alba when he arrives at the Ivy League school next fall. Slais, who is in his third season as a member of the Steel, is off to a good start with two points in five games this season. For his career Slais's totals are impressive, in 111 games played he scored 22 goals and is credited with 29 points including two shorthanded goals last season.

Brown University, located in beautiful Providence, Rhode Island, competes in the ECAC Hockey League along with Cornell, Colgate, Princeton, Yale and others. Not only will Eric be playing competitive Division-1 ice hockey, but he will also have the opportunity to attend a premier university.

"Brown is a great fit for Eric. Eric is a great student who has paid his dues in the USHL. He came into this league a little undersized but he has developed into one of the most skilled players in the league," comments Steel Head Coach/General Manager Wil Nichol. "Brown found a gem in Slais. He is very excited about committing and I expect he will do great things at Brown.."
