Chicago Steel News Release

GENEVA, ILLINOIS - The Chicago Steel today announced defenseman Luca Fantilli and forward Sam Lipkin as Co-Captains of the 2021-2022 Chicago Steel. Forward Joe Miller will serve as Alternate Captain for the team.

All three skaters are in their second season with Chicago after helping the Steel to the second Clark Cup title in franchise history a season ago.

"We are very excited to announce our Captains for this season and feel that we have great leadership throughout our line-up," said Steel head coach Brock Sheahan. "Both Luca and Sam have battled through different types of adversity in their time with our program and have benefited from those experiences. They are true Steel players and see the value of being a part of this organization. They have done a great job already this season in bringing along our young group and pushing us to get better every day."

Luca Fantilli, a University of Michigan commit, has totaled three assists in ten games this season from his defensive position. The Nobleton, Ontario, native registered 12 points (3G, 9A) in 52 games played during his rookie season as a member of the Chicago Steel in 2020-2021.

Forward Sam Lipkin currently shares fifth in the USHL points race with 11 points (5G, 6A) in nine appearances. Lipkin was selected by the Arizona Coyotes in the seventh round (#223 overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft after tallying three goals and eight assists last season. The Lafayette Hill, Penn., native is committed to Quinnipiac University.

"Joe is a great person that leads with both his actions and voice, on and off the ice," continued Sheahan. "He will be great in supporting Luca and Sam in leading this group."

Joe Miller, a forward selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the sixth round (#180 overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft, notched 18 points (8G, 10A) in 40 games during the 2020-2021 season and currently has six points (2G, 4A) through 10 outings this year.

"As a staff, we also feel it is important to recognize our larger leadership group not wearing letters, that will help support our Captains," concluded Sheahan. "This group will include Adam Fantilli, Jack Harvey, Jackson Blake, Dylan Robbins and Jake Livanavage. We feel very fortunate as a staff to have so many players with high level leadership qualities."

Fantilli, Lipkin and Miller have helped the Steel fly out of the gates to start the 2021-2022 regular season, matching the franchise record for point streaks to begin a season. Chicago has not lost a game in regulation through 10 outings, the same number of games from the 2016-2017 season when the Steel went on to win the first Clark Cup in franchise history.

The next set of Steel home games are on Friday, Nov. 5 with Hockey is for Everyone Night at 7:05 pm CT against the Green Bay Gamblers and Top Gun Night with Aviator Sunglasses Giveaway for the first 500 fans on Saturday, Nov. 6 against the Dubuque Fighting Saints at 7:05 pm CT.
