Steamwheelers Weekly Report

August 4, 2003 - arenafootball2 (af2)
Quad City Steamwheelers News Release

Recap: The Steamwheelers are coming off their first round bye in the ArenaCup playoffs. Head coach Rich Ingold put the Steamwheelers through a short week of light workouts allowing for his team to freshen their bodies up for their run towards their third ArenaCup championship.

Next Up: Now that the first round of the ArenaCup playoffs are complete, the Steamwheelers now know their first round opponent. The challenge will come in the form of the Arkansas Twisters on Saturday night at The MARK of the Quad Cities. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. The ‘Wheelers and Twisters have not met this season, but the ‘Wheelers hold a 4-0 edge over the Twisters. The last time the two teams met was May 26, 2001 at The MARK where the Steamwheelers won 60-32.

Gooch Gone for Playoffs; Hewitt, Dodge Get NFL Tryouts: OS Ira Gooch got an opportunity of a lifetime at the most inopportune time for the Steamwheelers as the New Orleans Saints called Gooch and next thing you know he is signed to a reported two-year deal with them. Thus leaving the Steamwheelers without their top star going into the playoffs. A day later, WR/DB Tim Dodge and WR/DB Jeff Hewitt got a call from the Carolina Panthers to come out for a tryout. The good news for those two and the Steamwheelers was that the Panthers promised Ingold that they would not offer either of them anything until the completion of the Steamwheelers season.
