Steamwheelers Tryouts Announced

DAVENPORT, Iowa — The Quad City Steamwheelers will hold their second and final open tryout session in preparation for their 2005 season and run at an unprecedented third ArenaCup Championship Title. Head Coach Rick Frazier has timed this tryout to coincide with the start of the af2 training camp which kicks off on March 17th. “My plan is to have this tryout leading right up to training camp,” stated Coach Frazier. “If there is anyone we sign out of this camp, we’ll be able to have them stick around with our camp starting the following week.”

Any one interested in trying out for the Steamwheelers must contact Assistant Coach, Eddie Langford at (563) 324-4888 – ext. 19 or via cellular at (563) 579-3370. The entry fee is $40 per person. A simple questionnaire is required at the time of registration along with the entry fee. Fees and questionnaire form must be submitted to the Quad City Steamwheelers – 200 West Third Street – Davenport, IA 52801 – Attn: Ed Langford prior to March 11th. You can register the day of the tryouts but you are asked to notify the Steamwheelers of your intention to tryout for the team prior to the tryout date if at all possible.

The Tryouts will be held on Saturday, March 12th at the Pepsico Center – 1025 30th Street – Rock Island, IL 61201. Pre-Registration starts at 8:00 a.m. with the tryouts starting at 8:45 a.m. and ending at 12:00 noon. The Tryouts will consist of the following:

· Height & Weight Measurement

· 225 lb. Bench Press (# of reps)

· 40-yard Dash

· 20-yard Shuttle

· Vertical Jump

· Agility Drills (1-on-1 and 3-on3)

The Steamwheelers are closing in on their sixth season of play as a charter member of the af2, under new coach Rick Frazier, a veteran head coach in the Arena Football League. The 2005 af2 season is set to kickoff the first weekend of April, with the Steamwheelers opening their season on the road the following weekend at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Their first home game of the 2005 season will come on Saturday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m., when they host the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings.
