Wilkes-Barre, PA- The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers are proud to announce the assignment of Ken Shimizu to their 2005 roster from the international draft.
"Shimizu has great quickness and is very football savvy," says Pioneers' Offensive Coordinator Terry Karg.
Shimizu, a 5'9" 163lbs wide receiver/defensive back, hails from Japan. He played for the Seagulls in Japan's X-League from 2002 until 2004. The X-League is Japan's highest-level football league. He runs the 40-yard dash in a time of 4.5 seconds.
In 2004, Shimizu was selected All Japan Samurai Warrior. His team finished 4th place, losing in the semi-finals.
Shimizu was selected to Japan's National Team during the World Cup Championship. He was also given the Fighting Spirit Award of the Pearl Bowl in 2003. His team finished 6th place in playoffs.
In 2002, Shimizu was named Rookie of the Year of the X-League and was selected to the leagues All-Star Team. His team was Division and X-League Champions.
Shimizu started playing football at Kamakura High School and then Senshu University upon graduation. He was named Most Valuable Player of the Eastern College League in 2000 and 2001.
