Spokane Shock News Release

Spokane, WA: For only the second time in two years, the Spokane Shock was defeated at home tonight by the Quad City Steamwheelers, 60-45, in front of 10,560 fans.

In a game that was earmarked as the match-up of the week in the af2, the Shock and the Steamwheelers locked horns for three-quarters of play until the Steamwheelers offense finally pulled away from the Shock scoring 27 points in the fourth quarter.

Former Shock QB JJ Raterink led the Steamwheelers offense, completing 62 percent of his passes including five for touchdowns. Raterink's deep receiving core had four receivers with multiple receptions including Kris Peters who accounted for 132 yards and three touchdowns. The Steamwheelers second leading receiver, Jack Walker, was shut down by the Shock's secondary as he accounted for only 2 receptions and seven yards.

The offense of the Shock struggled in the fourth quarter despite putting up 45 points in the game. Rookie QB Andrico Hines was pulled in the fourth quarter after completing 72 percent of his passes with three touchdowns and four interceptions. Back-up QB Matt Gutierrez made the most of his limited playing time completing three touchdown passes with 133 yards.

In his post-game press conference, Head Coach Adam Shackleford said that the quarterback situation is "wide open."

"Next week, they will split reps and we will try to bring someone else in to compete for the job," Shackleford continued. "But both of those guys are capable; that's why they are here."

Returning receivers Antwone Savage and Raul Vijil fueled the offense of the Shock by combining for 321 yards and 24 receptions. Savage added two touchdowns while Vijil added four to his season total.

The Shock will hit the road this week for their first road game of the season as they travel to Fort Wayne Indiana to take on the expansion Fusion. Their next home game is on April 21st as they host the Lubbock Renegades. Tickets are available and can be purchased by calling TicketsWest at 325-SEAT.

NOTES - DB Rob Keefe left the game in the third quarter and did not return. At this time, it is not known how long he will be out of action...the flags were flying tonight as the referees called 19 penalties (12 on Spokane and 9 on Quad City).
