St. Louis Steamers News Release
Steamers Gain Ground During Weekend Off
The first place Steamers were idle over the weekend, but they saw their lead in the standings increase following this weekend's games.
The Philadelphia Kixx broke out of a franchise worst nine game losing streak with a 7-6 overtime victory over the Milwaukee Wave Saturday in Philadelphia. The loss was the second straight for Milwaukee, who has lost four of their last five games. Philadelphia's win over Milwaukee dropped the Wave to two and one half games back and gave the Steamers their largest lead of the season in the standings. It also put Milwaukee in a second place tie with the Baltimore Blast, who defeated the California Cougars on Friday.
With two-thirds of the season completed, here is how things shape up heading into the final third: Brett Phillips Named MISL Goalkeeper Of The Month Brett Phillips went 4-0 during the month of February, including a shutout, and his performance has earned him the MISL's Goalkeeper of the Month recognition. The honor is the second player of the month award captured by a member of the Steamers this season. Genoni Martinez garnered the Defensive Player of the Month award in January. Phillips and his teammates continue to function as the MISL's top defense, a fact that was never more statistically evident than it was during the Steamers' perfect 4-0 month of February.

MISL Announces Championship Series Format
The Major Indoor Soccer League has announced the format and dates of the 2006 MISL Championship Series. The 2006 MISL Championship Series is scheduled to begin the weekend of April 14-16. The Championship Series consists of four teams. The MISL Regular Season Champion earns the number 1 seed as determined by regular season win percentage. The other postseason spots are allotted to the three teams with the next best regular season win percentage, determining the number 2, number 3 and number 4 seeds. Home field advantage is awarded to the higher seeded team.
600th Goal Eludes Reiniger
Steamers forward Joe Reiniger is on the verge of an impressive milestone. Reiniger has scored 598 regular-season goals in his indoor soccer career. Reiniger did not score in the last home game February 20. His next opportunity will come when the Steamers visit the Cougars in California this Friday, March 3. If he does not hit the 600 mark in California, Reiniger will get another opportunity to do so in front of the home faithful when the Steamers host the Philadelphia Kixx Saturday, March 11 at 1:04 p.m. at Savvis Center.
