Steamers travel to Monterrey with \'must-win\' playoff scenario
March 30, 2004 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
St. Louis Steamers News Release
(St. Louis, March 30, 2004) -- The St. Louis Steamers travel to Monterrey, Mexico, to take on the Fury in a March 31, 8:35 p.m. (CST) kickoff at Arena Monterrey. The March 31 game is a makeup of a match originally scheduled for Jan. 11; that game was postponed due to an arena conflict with the Summit of the Americas. Following the March 31 game, the Steamers have two more road games to conclude the 2003-2004 MISL regular season: April 3, 7:05 p.m. at Dallas; and April 5, 1:05 p.m. at Monterrey.
The Steamers still have a chance to make the MISL playoffs, but they must win all three remaining games and have some help. Six MISL teams qualify for the 2003-04 MISL playoffs. Milwaukee (Central Division, 25-9), Dallas (Western Division, 20-14), and Baltimore (Eastern Division, 24-10) have clinched playoff berths via division titles, and Philadelphia (19-15) holds the first wild card (No. 4 overall) seed.
Kansas City (16-19), Cleveland (15-19), and the Steamers (13-20) are vying for the fifth and sixth playoff seeds. Kansas City has one regular-season game left: April 3 at home against San Diego; Cleveland has a pair of road games: April 2 at Baltimore, and April 3 at Philadelphia. A loss by the Steamers or a win by either Kansas City or Cleveland would eliminate the Steamers from playoff contention.
