
Steamers Split Doubleheader with Peninsula

The Teal and Black jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after Anthony Maselli singled to bring home James Battley. However, Peninsula would respond.
The Pilots would put up three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Johnathan Embry doubled down the right field line to score Scott Dubrule and Jack Owens. Embery later score on a sacrifice fly to make the score 3-1.
In the second inning, new Steamer Joey Mundy doubled to right field to lead off the inning. Mudy scored when Connor Kopach grounded into a double play to make the score 3-2. After quite middle innings, the Clams came alive in the fifth. Jason Agresti drove in the only two runs of the inning after reaching on a throwing error by the third baseman to give Edenton the 4-3 lead.
The Pilots answered right back in the bottom of the inning. Drake McNamara would get a two-RBI single off of Nick Martinez to allow Peninsula to regain the lead 5-4.
Ryan Fox, who pitched the last three innings, would close the game down in the seventh inning and pick up the win. Nick Martinez picked up the loss for the Steamers.
Game 2:
Edenton would again pick up the first runs of the ballgame. This time it was Tristen Carranza who drove in Jason Agresti after he tripled to begin the second inning. After a wild pitch and a groundout, Tristen Carranza was driven home by William Robbins on an infield single on the third base side to make the score 2-0.
Cody Maw kept the Peninsula offense off the board for the first five innings. Maw threw five scoreless innings while giving up just two hits and striking out six batters.
Peninsula pushed a run across in the sixth to make it a 3-1 game after Jack Owens had an RBI ground out.
The Clams brought in Carmen Giampetruzzi to close things down in the seventh, but the Pilots did not go down easy. Peninsula got an RBI single from Logan Augustine to make the score 3-2. However, that is all they would get. Giampetruzzi ended the ball game by striking out the next two hitters that came to the plate to pick up his third save of the season.
The Steamers will play Wednesday at home against Wilmington. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
