Edenton Steamers News Release

HAMPTON, VA - The Edenton Steamers dropped their final meeting with the Peninsula Pilots, 5-2, on Friday night. Edenton (14-10, 26-26) connected for just three hits as Peninsula (18-8, 37-16) picked up its ninth straight victory.

Eric Scheuermann took the loss for the Teal and Black. Scheuermann (3-3) lasted 4.2 innings, giving up five earned runs on seven hits and four walks to six strikeouts.

Chris Gau earned the win for the Pilots. Gau (2-1) shut out the Clams on just one hit over five innings while walking one batter and fanning four. Robbie Hiser grabbed his eighth save of the summer, hurling a perfect ninth inning with one strikeout.

The Pilots drew first blood in the bottom of the first inning. After a one-out walk for Kyle McPherson, Kurt Sinnen cracked a double to give Peninsula a 1-0 lead.

The Pilots blew the game open with a four-run fifth. Nick Walker led off the frame with a walk, and after McPherson doubled in the next at bat, Sinnen drew a second walk to load the bases. Darian Carpenter followed with a double to score two runs, and two batters later, Hunter Taylor added two more tallies with a double of his own, giving Peninsula a 5-0 advantage.

The Steamers fought back with a one-out rally in the sixth. Richie Cunningham got things going with a double, and back-to-back walks to Trey Hair and Aaron Aucker loaded the bases. In the next at bat, Tony Rosselli bounced a ground ball to second to plate Cunningham, and when shortstop Nathan Eaton airmailed his throw to first in an effort to turn a double play, Trey Hair came home for Edenton's final run of the night.

The Edenton Steamers finish up their home schedule with a doubleheader against the Fayetteville SwampDogs on Saturday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. For more information, fans can call (252) 482-4080 or visit edentonsteamers.com.
