Steamers kick off busy week with St. Pat\'s Day tilt at Family Arena

(St. Louis, March 16, 2004) -- The St. Louis Steamers host the Dallas Sidekicks March 17 at 7:35 p.m. in a special St. Patrick's Day tilt at The Family Arena. Wednesday's game is the first of three matches this week for the Steamers as the team takes aim at an MISL playoff berth. Following their 4-3 victory at San Diego March 14, the Steamers (11-17) are percentage points behind the San Diego Sockers in a battle for the sixth and final MISL playoff spot. St. Louis is 0-2 thus far this season against Dallas, with both losses coming in November. The Sidekicks (17-13) are in first place in the MISL Western Division, 5.0 games ahead of San Diego.

On March 19, the Steamers host the Kansas City Comets at 7:35 p.m. at The Family Arena. The game is the sixth and final matchup between the intrastate and MISL Central Division rivals this season. The Steamers have won three of the five games thus far this season, including a 5-3 triumph on Feb. 20 in Kansas City in the most recent matchup. Although Kansas City has scored the second-most goals in the MISL this season (197), the Steamers have outscored the Comets 36-26 in the season series. Kansas City (15-17) leads St. Louis (11-17) by two games in the standings. The Comets roster features St. Louis natives Jeff Davis and Brian Soell, and former Steamers Jason Cole (Saint Louis University) and Craig Scheer (Cape Girardeau Central High School).

Finally, on March 20, the Steamers travel to Philadelphia to take on the KiXX. The 6:05 p.m. game at the Wachovia Spectrum concludes the season series between the Steamers and KiXX. St. Louis has won two of the three meetings between the teams this season, including an 8-3 victory Feb. 21 at The Family Arena. St. Louis native Joel Shanker is one of the top players on the Philadelphia roster and enters the game tied for second on the team in goals (21).
