Edenton Steamers News Release

EDENTON, NC - Edenton knocked out 15 hits in their 15-2 white washing of the Petersburg Generals at Petersburg Sports Complex on Monday night.

Edenton's offense, having outscored opponents 25-5 in the last three games, continued the hot hitting in Petersburg. Josh Hampton (Wilmington University), earlier in the day named Coastal Plain League Hitter of the Week, got the Steamers going in the bottom of the first knocking in two with a single to give Edenton a lead they would not relinquish. Adam Kirsch (Texas Tech University) knocked in a third run with an RBI double to make it 3-0 Steamers before Petersburg ever came to the plate.

Laz Villa (Reedley College) and Trent Miller (Middle Tennessee State University) both knocked in runs in the top of the second inning to extend Edenton's lead to 5-0.

Edenton really blew it open against Petersburg starting pitcher Brent Adheen in the top of the fifth. They sent 11 men to the plate and scored seven times in the frame, led by Kirsch's two-run double that scored Hampton and Blaise Fernandez (George Mason University). Sam Bumpers (Lamar University) picked up his first hit of the season in the fifth inning and drove in his first run of the season in the victory.

On the mound, David St. Lawrence (Brown University) was excellent, pitching six innings, allowing just one run on two hits, he did not issue a walk and struck out seven to earn his first victory of the season.

Tyler Eager (Abilene Christian University) entered the game in the top of the sixth as a pinch hitter and he came up with a two-run double in the top of the eighth for his first RBIs of the season and Villa knocked in Alex Delgado (Emmanuel College) right after Eager's double to make it 15-1 Steamers.

The only run of the ball game for Petersburg was scored in bottom of the fifth against St. Lawerence, when he allowed a lead-off double to Josh Mason and after a ground out moved Mason to third, St. Lawrence threw a wild pitch that allowed Mason to score Petersburg only run. Petersburg added an unearned run in the bottom of the ninth against Michael Drye (Winston-Salem State University).

Edenton, as an offense, banged out 15 hits, including four doubles in the win and stole four bases in winning their fourth straight game.

Villa and Kirsch led the team with three RBIs apiece and Villa and Hampton both had three hits apiece in the win. Kirsch had a pair of doubles to go along with the three driven in.

Edenton welcomes in Asheboro tomorrow night in Edenton for their first non division match-up of 2013; first pitch at 7 pm.
