St. Louis Steamers News Release
St. Louis - The Major Indoor Soccer league announced their final Players of the Week honors on Monday and for the 19th time this season, the Steamers had a player earn such an honor. Carlos "Chile" Farias was announced as the MISL Offensive Player of the Week Monday afternoon following his performance in the Steamers 8-3 win over the Chicago Storm April 8th in a preview of the Semi-Final round of the MISL Championship Series.
In the last week of the MISL regular season, "Chile" Farias sure did turn a few heads. With his four point performance in Saturday's game against the Chicago Storm, Chile single handedly let everyone know who they will be up against this playoff season. Farias had two goals and two assists in Saturdays 8-3 victory over Chicago. With those four points Chile closed out the season with 15 goals and a league leading 34 assists. His 49 points finished on top of the Steamers' leading point scorers.
Farias, a 29 year old native of Santiago, Chile, has been in the MISL since 2002 and this year will be his first complete season with the Steamers and has been an offensive star ever since his arrival. This shows in that this is his second Player of the Week honor; the week of January 20th and now the week of April 3rd.
Chile is a former MISL All-Star and an All-MISL Selection. Before coming to the Steamers Chile played professionally for San Diego, Detroit, Indiana, Harrisburg, Arizona and Baltimore. Now with St. Louis, Chile and the rest of the league leading Steamers open their MISL Championship Series Semi-Finals set at Chicago on April 15, at 6 pm (CT). Game two will be at Savvis Center in St. Louis on April 22nd beginning at 7:05 pm.
