Steamers End Sharks Streak

July 23, 2016 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Wilmington Sharks News Release

It was clear early that the bats for the Edenton Steamers (24-19, 12-3) were going to be tough to handle, and in the end they proved too much for the Wilmington Sharks (27-17, 11-6) as Edenton took the game 7-4

This game had the makings of a high scoring one, as both teams scored in the first. The Sharks scored two in the top of the inning, one from an RBI single from Mark Donadio (Fordham) who would later score on a wild pitch. Edenton didn't stay down long as they scored three in the bottom of the inning to take the lead.

The Sharks' offense was kept quiet until the eighth inning, but by then the Steamers were ahead 7-2. With the bases loaded, Grant Koch (Arkansas) hit one to the outfield to bring home a run, but the outfielder quickly made the throw in to get a force out. The Sharks would only get the one that inning. Donadio brought home another in the ninth, but Wilmington couldn't complete the comeback.

The win went to Eric Scheuermann (2-2). He threw five innings, with five hits, two runs, one walk and eight strikeouts. Mike Castellani (6-3) took the loss, pitching five innings, allowing six runs, four earned, on seven hits, no walks and five strikeouts.

The Sharks get two off days now. They'll be back in town on Tuesday to host the Tobs again, when it will be Taco Tuesday.
